A Quickie with Clare Mackintosh

Tell me about your latest book and why we should read it?

LET ME LIE is packed full of twists and has a detective character I fell in love with. It’s the story of Anna, a new mother coming to terms with the double suicide of her parents. When Anna receives an anonymous note that casts doubt over her parents’ deaths, it’s retired detective Murray Mackenzie who agrees to look into the case. He soon discovers there’s more to Anna’s parents’ lives – and deaths – than first appears.

If someone was to write your life story what would the title be?

No idea. But if anyone’s writing my life story, it’s me…

What’s the strangest fan question or request you’ve received?

‘If someone was to write your life story what would the title be?’

If you could co-write with anyone in the world (alive or dead) who would it be?

Jodi Picoult, not just because she writes brilliantly, but because she researches meticulously, and it would be fascinating to go along for the ride.

Tell me something nobody else knows about you (yet!).

I love performing, and harbour secret fantasies of being ‘discovered’ and hitting the West End…

Finally please recommend 3 books that you have recently read and tell me why you’ve chosen these.

Fatal Inheritance, Rachel Rhys. 1940s glamour, the French Riviera… what’s not to love?
Killing It, Asia Mackay. Funny crime novels are few and far between, and this is a breath of fresh air.
A Double Life, Flynn Berry. Dark and literary, this is a stunning novel.
