A Quickie with Lisa Cutts

Tell me about your latest book and why we should read it?

My latest book, Buried Secrets begins with detective inspector Milton Bowman’s car accident, leading to the discovery of his wife’s bloodied body on the kitchen floor. Nothing is as it seems and everyone is under suspicion – the Bowman family, friends and colleagues. You should read it if you like a bit of torture, drug dealing, murder and a smattering of humour.

If someone was to write your life story what would the title be?

If someone wrote the story of my life, I think the title would be, ‘She did OK in the end and most people didn’t even know she had webbed feet’.

What’s the strangest fan question or request you’ve received?

I’ve not had any really strange questions but I have been asked for crime prevention advice once or twice. I think one person was on the verge of confessing a crime to me at a bookshop in Kent. That was a bit bizarre.

If you could co-write with anyone in the world (alive or dead) who would it be?

Without a doubt, Agatha Christie would be the one person I’d have loved to write with.

Tell me something nobody else knows about you (yet!).

I can’t use a high powered hand dryer in the toilets and look at my hands whilst they’re drying. I think the flesh is about to be pulled off my bones.

Finally please recommend 3 books that you have recently read and tell me why you’ve chosen these.

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Bachman made me laugh and cry. I’ve thought a lot about this wonderful book and how someone turns out the way they are for reasons we may never know or understand.

Kill Me Twice by Simon Booker was difficult to put down. About one in every three books I read is a crime fiction book so I always have to be picky. This one is the second in the Morgan Vine series and is as fantastic as the first. Morgan is a brilliant character. She’s a no-nonsense single-mum, journalist and campaigner of miscarriages of justice.

After You by JoJo Moyes sat on my bookshelf for a very long time before I plucked up the courage to read it. I’d loved Me Before You so much, I wasn’t sure that its sequel would live up to my expectations. It far exceeded them. If you’ve read and loved the first one, don’t put it off any longer.
