Tell me about your latest book and why we should read it?
It’s called The Lucky Ones, it’s about a serial killer who makes his victims happy before he murders them, and you should read it because it’s A Shocking, Original Thriller with a Twist That Will Make You Gasp.
If someone was to write your life story what would the title be?
Mark My Words. Or possibly The Lucky One.
What’s the strangest fan question or request you’ve received?
Somebody emailed me to ask if I enjoy having USB sticks inserted up my bottom. (This is because there’s a character in Because She Loves Me who has that particular kink.) I also had a number of emails from a woman who’s in prison in the USA, asking if I could send her a book for the prison library. I guess that’s not that strange but it’s not every day you get fan mail from an incarcerated sex worker.
If you could co-write with anyone in the world (alive or dead) who would it be?
Louise Voss, obvs, but we sadly don’t have time at the moment.
Tell me something nobody else knows about you (yet!).
When I wrote The Magpies my original plan was to release an explicit version and a clean version, thinking the existence of the clean version would make everyone want to read the naughty one. In the end, I didn’t bother with the clean version.
Finally please recommend 3 books that you have recently read and tell me why you’ve chosen these.
Exquisite by Sarah Stovell. So beautifully written it made me weep with envy.
The Hours Before Dawn by Celia Fremlin. It’s a domestic noir novel that was written in 1958. It’s just been republished and is a fascinating read if you like psychological thrillers and want to see how they’ve changed over the last sixty years (clue: not very much).
Give Me The Child by Mel McGrath. It’s about psychotic children and is a must-read for any parent who’s ever worried their child might be a future serial killer.

My influences include writers such as Stephen King, Ira Levin, Ruth Rendell, Ian McEwan, Val McDermid and Donna Tartt and movies like Rosemary’s Baby, Single White Female, Fatal Attraction and anything in which scary things happen to ordinary people.
