A Quickie with Steve Cavanagh

Tell me about your latest book and why we should read it?

My latest book is The Liar. It’s the third Eddie Flynn novel, but each of the books in the series work as standalones and can be read in any order. Eddie used to be con artist, and now he’s a trial lawyer in New York. In The Liar Eddie has to represent an old friend whose daughter has been kidnapped. In order to get her back, Eddie and his client have to break the law. Is Eddie’s client telling the truth? Or has this been a set-up from the very beginning?

If someone was to write your life story what would the title be?

The Return Of The Man Who Never Came Back.

What’s the strangest fan question or request you’ve received?

I occasionally get questions about the law. I don’t answer those unless I’m being paid.

If you could co-write with anyone in the world (alive or dead) who would it be?

Raymond Chandler. He used to lock himself in a hotel room (an official author restraining technique) with a crates of beer and whiskey and a typewriter. I could live with that.

Tell me something nobody else knows about you (yet!).

My wife knows everything about me. That’s a hard question. I nearly always wear odd socks. And when I write, I need coffee and my word screen zoomed to 156% precisely. Yeah, I’m weird.

Finally please recommend 3 books that you have recently read and tell me why you’ve chosen these.

The Bone Keeper by Luca Veste. It’s out early next year, and it’s a cracking serial killer thriller that will chill you to the bone. Loved it.

Sharks by Conor Woodman. Great non-fiction read about con artists and hustlers across the globe.

Here And Gone by Haylen Beck. One of the best thrillers I’ve read in years. A future classic.
