A Quickie With

A Quickie with Holly Seddon

Tell me about your latest book and why we should read it?

Don’t Close Your Eyes is a thriller wrapped up in a family noir. So far, no one has guessed the twist so that’s a good reason to read it!

If someone was to write your life story what would the title be?

Clumsier Than She Looked.

What’s the strangest fan question or request you’ve received?

Hmn. I’ve been pretty lucky with readers who’ve got in touch, no weird requests. I did have to block one guy though, we’ll call him Billy (not his name) who sent wave after wave of Facebook messages saying things like “love Billy”, “Billy love”, “heart Billy”, just on and on, night after night.

If you could co-write with anyone in the world (alive or dead) who would it be?

Agatha Christie. I’d love to see how she came up with plot after plot.

Tell me something nobody else knows about you (yet!).

As a child, I had an imaginary friend. Called Derek.

Finally please recommend 3 books that you have recently read and tell me why you’ve chosen these.

  1. The Power by Naomi Alderman. It’s so fantastically accurate on the way power corrupts plus the background fear you inherit as a woman, that that it’s almost too much. And it’s a really decent story, not just a learning experience!
  2. All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. A beautiful, intense reading experience than cracks open the second world war – such a well-covered topic already – and displays it from fresh angles.
  3. When God Was a Rabbit by Sarah Winman. Not new but new to me. My friend Mark kept recommending it but I had completely the wrong impression from the title and resisted. Now I feel like an arse because it was a glorious book.
