A Quickie With

A Quickie with Joel Hames

Tell me about your latest book and why we should read it?

Well, you should read Victims, my latest novella, because it’s chilling and tense, short, cheap (or free if you sign up via my website here ) and acts as a prequel to a really quite thrilling series which will soon have four full-length novels in it.

If someone was to write your life story what would the title be?

Hit The Brakes Now!

What’s the strangest fan question or request you’ve received?

“I loved The Art of Staying Dead and was wondering if you could write a book about my garden for me?”

If you could co-write with anyone in the world (alive or dead) who would it be?

James Joyce. For the banter, the booze and the brilliance.

Tell me something nobody else knows about you (yet!).

I used to play in a band with Cilla Black’s son.

Finally please recommend 3 books that you have recently read and tell me why you’ve chosen these.

As for books I’ve recently read, I’ll go for Craig Lancaster’s The Summer Son, because Craig writes about families and secrets like no one else can, Steph Broadribb’s Deep Down Dead because it’s about a female bounty hunter in the deep south and it’s just bloody exciting, and John Bowen’s Death Stalks Kettle Street because it’s one of the cleverest and most thoughtful pieces of crime fiction I’ve read in years.

Joel Hames

Joel Hames lives in rural Lancashire with his wife and two daughters, where he works hard at looking serious and pretending to be a proper novelist. Joel writes what he wants, when he wants to (which by coincidence is when the rest of the family choose to let him). His first novel, Bankers Town, was published in 2014, and The Art of Staying Dead followed in 2015.

If you want to know what Joel has planned for the future, what he thinks right now, or just stalk him a little, you can find him on Facebook here  or Twitter here .
