You come from a family of Fish and Chip shop owners. Can you please let me know in your professional opinion if Cod or Haddock is better and do you have mushy peas with yours?

Well I hate to throw a curve ball in there but I actually prefer Plaice and no I don’t have mushy peas with mine. I do like a bit of Tartare sauce though.

Congratulations on the success of your debut novel The Teacher and the second book The Secret – can you please tell us about them for those who haven’t read your books yet?

Without Giving the game away – Both books follow Detectives Imogen Grey and Adrian Miles as they delve into the murky side of Exeter. Both books can be read as a standalone.

The Teacher is about a series of seemingly unconnected gruesome murders with a medieval air about them. As Miles and Grey get closer to the truth they start to uncover the motive for the murders, which leaves them with a moral conundrum.

The Secret is about a missing girl, and finding out more about Imogen Greys past and why she ended up in Exeter. As they investigate the disappearance of a young woman, they both find out things that will change their lives forever.

The Teacher is rather gruesome with some pretty disgusting scenes (even by my sick standards) and I loved it, when you are writing these books where do you get the ideas for these killings and should your friends be worried about you?

Firstly, I don’t have any friends. Secondly I really wanted to push my own boundaries. I looked at things I like to read and watch and admitted to myself that maybe I liked feeling shocked and disgusted. I try to put a bit of that in my books because I like to evoke an emotional response, even it is just ‘ew’

In your profile photo you hair looks blue. Have you coloured it to match the striking covers of your books?

No. That was pure coincidence. I dye my hair all the time, its ruined basically.

Tell me about book 3 and does it contain DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles?

Yes they are both in it again. They both get put through their paces both in their private and professional lives. There are a few new characters in it and not all of them die horribly.

Heat Magazine have called you The Queen of Grip-Lit – from one queen to another – did you do a little victory jig when you read that review?

I have been in a fugue state since last March so I couldn’t possibly tell you until I snap back into reality.

We met “virtually” online when you joined my book club on Facebook (TBC), how important are these groups to you as a writer and a reader?

I’m genuinely shocked that I didn’t know these places existed. I have been so self involved for so long! Its been wonderful to see peoples responses to the books, even the negative ones. I started writing because I loved reading (ironic as now I have no time to read) and I adore books. Its nice to see other people sharing their love of books when society seems to be so obsessed with technology. Groups like TBC give me hope that maybe the SKYNET apocalypse isn’t coming.

You have lived all over the place, Weston-Super-Mare, Northern Greece, South Devon, Cyprus, Derby, East London and now East Kent. Do you have good rates with your local removal company? What do you miss most from Greece and Cyprus?

I just burn all my stuff every time I move – its cheaper and less hassle. I was much younger when I left both of those countries but I can honestly say the thing I miss most is the Oranges.

Please tell me all about your 3 pet rats?

Well there are only 2 left now and one has a paralyzed bum, which is apparently very common. At the moment they are eating some water biscuits – they are quite posh.

Finally, what plans have you got for 2017?

Leave the house? maybe brush my hair? Shoes? I’m a bit of a hermit…
