So some of you may belong to my little online bookclub on Facebook called THE Book Club (TBC), and yesterday we celebrated our 3rd birthday by having a little get together in a wonderful venue in London.
I was determined to find a venue that could hold all the bookworms, was central in London with good transport links and couldn’t believe it when I stumbled upon The Fable, located near Farringdon and more importantly had a book theme running throughout the 3 floors.
Once I secured the venue I started contacting all the publishers and authors asking for books to give to our guests in their goody bags. A huge thank you to everyone who donated books and I was overwhelmed to receive just over 1000 books (which took up half my house). My thanks to Orion Books, Orenda, Trapeze, Harper Collins, Bloombury, Legend Press, Amanda Prowse, Penguin Randomhouse, Little Brown Book Group, Bonnier Zaffre and everyone else I may have forgotten.
Guests started to arrive at 6pm and we had a wonderful surprise when some of the Killer Women popped over for drink.
Mark Billingham was more than happy to act as our Raffle Master and with his help, we raised over £900 for our charity Secondary First which we have selected to support in honour of Helen Cadbury. With the generosity of some very talented authors, we were given signed copies from Cath Staincliffe, Fiona Cummins, Peter James, Mark Billingham, SJ Watson, John Marrs, David Videcette, Laura Marshall and more.
We partied hard and drank lots and made new friends and above all were able to stalk our favourite authors without fear of a restraining order. My thanks and appreciation to everyone who attended or donated to our party and now I shall go back to bed and nurse my headache with a good book or two!
