My Review:
If you are looking for a twisty, gripping psychological thriller than you can always rely on Freida McFadden. With a back catalogue of 16 twisty thrillers and 3 women’s fiction, you are guaranteed to find a book that is both page-turning and entertaining. The majority of Freida’s books are available on Kindle Unlimited and some on Amazon Prime which is an added bonus.
This is my 5th book by Freida and I plan to read all her books within the next few years. Never Lie is a standalone thriller which I chose to read with my buddy readers over a period of 3 days and stopping at sections to discuss.
Meet Tricia and Ethan – a newly married couple who met and married after a whirlwind romance and are now househunting for their dream forever home. They’ve got an appointment to visit a house and due to adverse weather conditions they arrive at the isolated and empty house during a blizzard and find themselves stuck without any mobile reception or way home. With no option but to stay in the house overnight and wait for the weather to clear they start to notice strange and spooky things.
The book has dual timeframes and two main narrators. Tricia, the newly wed and Dr Adrienne Hale, the psychiastrist who owned the home and vanished 3 years ago.
As usual the author takes the reader down several rabbit holes, dropping clues or misdirection everywhere and soon you begin to suspect everyone and trust no-one.
I’m not going to go into any more detail because you need to read the book for yourself to find out what happens and why. This would have been an easy 5 star read for me, but unfortunately the ending/reveal fell a little flat for me and therefore I changed my rating to 4 stars. Still a very enjoyable read and the rest of my buddies agreed.
