An Evil Mind – Chris Carter (Robert Hunter #6)

A freak accident in rural Wyoming leads the Sheriff’s Department to arrest a man for a possible double homicide, but further investigations suggest a much more horrifying discovery – a serial killer who has been kidnapping, torturing and mutilating victims all over the United States for at least twenty-five years. The suspect claims he is a pawn in a huge labyrinth of lies and deception – can he be believed?

The case is immediately handed over to the FBI, but this time they’re forced to ask for outside help. Ex-criminal behaviour psychologist and lead Detective with the Ultra Violent Crime Unit of the LAPD, Robert Hunter, is asked to run a series of interviews with the apprehended man. These interviews begin to reveal terrifying secrets that no one could’ve foreseen, including the real identity of a killer so elusive that no one, not even the FBI, had any idea he existed … until now.

My review: So, this is the 6th book in the Robert Hunter series and if you are looking for sick, twisted serial killers then this is the book for you.  If you haven’t read the first 5 – stop right now.. get onto Amazon and download them now and I will see you back here when you’ve finished them.  If you have read the first 5 – you are in for a treat.

An Evil Mind is slightly different to the previous 5 books for a couple of reasons, one being that his wonderful partner Carlos Garcia is not featured in this book at all, the other is that we find out quite a lot about Robert’s past in this book, particularly about his childhood which I really enjoyed as I’ve always wondered about several issues up to this point.

I have no intention of giving away the plot here or spoiling it for future readers – except to say – it’s Chris Carter – so it’s sick, twisted, devious, gory, gruesome and there were many elements that reminded me of Silence of the Lambs.   Another FAB book featuring one of my favourite crime busters.

About the author: Chris Carter was born in Brasilia, Brazil where he spent my childhood and teenage years. After graduating from high school, he moved to the USA where he studied psychology with specialization in criminal behaviour. During his University years he held a variety of odd jobs, ranging from flipping burgers to being part of an all male exotic dancing group.

He worked as a criminal psychologist for several years before moving to Los Angeles, where he swapped the suits and briefcases for ripped jeans, bandanas and an electric guitar. After a spell playing for several well known glam rock bands, he decided to try my luck in London, where he was fortunate enough to have played for a number of famous artists.  He toured the world several times as a professional musician.  A few years ago he gave it all up to become a full time writer
