Need To Know – Karen Cleveland

About the book:  PERFECT HUSBAND. PERFECT FATHER. PERFECT LIAR?

Vivian Miller is a CIA analyst assigned to uncover Russian sleeper cells in the USA. After accessing the computer of a potential Russian spy, she stumbles on a secret dossier of deep-cover agents living in her own country. Five seemingly normal people living in plain sight.

A few clicks later, everything that matters to Vivian is threatened – her job, her husband, even her four children . . .

Vivian has vowed to defend her country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. But now she’s facing impossible choices. Torn between loyalty and betrayal, allegiance and treason, love and suspicion, who can she trust?

Will her next move be the right one?

About the Author: Karen Cleveland spent eight years as a CIA analyst, the last six in counter terrorism. She has master’s degrees from Trinity College Dublin, where she studied as a Fulbright Scholar, and from Harvard University. She lives in northern Virginia with her husband and two young kids.

My Review: I don’t normally read books about espionage or spy thrillers, but I saw an article containing Lee Child’s favourite books of 2018 and obviously I had to have a quick look on Amazon and before I knew it the book had “accidentally” fallen into my one-click shopping basket and miraculously appeared on my kindle.

This really is a cracking, edge of your seat, sphincter clenching, knicker gripper of a story that grabs you immediately by the throat and doesn’t let you go until the final page.

The fact that the author Karen Cleveland was a CIA analyst in counter terrorism gives this story the additional plausibility and depth, which makes Need To Know even more chilling.

Vivian has been happily married to Matt for 10 years, has 4 young children and her dream job working for the CIA when she discovers something that turns her entire life underside down and makes her question everything and everyone she believes in.

This is a superb debut novel that makes you question how far you would go to protect your husband, your children and your life.  A tale of lies, loyalty and love and I thoroughly recommend it.
