FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE SUNDAY TIMES NUMBER ONE BESTSELLER HUNTING EVIL COMES THE NEXT COMPULSIVE THRILLER IN THE ROBERT HUNTER SERIES
Los Angeles, December 4th – exactly three weeks until Christmas day. Angela Wood, a master in the art of pickpocket, has just finished for the day – six hundred and eighty-seven dollars – not bad for less than fifteen minutes work.
As she celebrates her profitable day with a cocktail, one of the patrons in the lounge she’s in catches her attention by being rude to an old man. Angela decides to teach him a lesson, and steals the man’s expensive-looking leather bag.
Inside is no money … no laptop computer … nothing of any value … at least not to Angela. Just a black, leather-bound book, surprisingly heavy. Curiosity takes over and in the comfort of her apartment, Angela quickly leafs through the pages.
That is when the worst nightmare of her life begins.
This is no ordinary book.
Read it at your own peril.
It’s no secret that I adore Chris Carter’s books and when Anne Cater asked me if I would like to join the blogtour for his 11th book in the superb Robert Hunter series it was an immediate “YES PLEASE”. So my thanks to Anne for organising and the publishers for my copy of the book.
If you follow my reviews and blog then you will know that I always strongly recommend you read a series in the order they were published as, in my opinion, you have a better understanding of the main characters and background stories and whilst every book in this series can be read in any order, WHY WOULD YOU?
Being book 11 in a series it’s always impressive when the author manages to come up with new, inventive and gorier scenarios and can keep the reader interested and entertained and Chris Carter certainly knows how to do that.
Written in Blood is another nail-biting, hard-hitting gripping thriller which really isn’t for the feint-hearted! The story opens with Angela, a young pick-pocket who has moved to LA to escape her traumatic past and steals a briefcase at a bar one evening. When she discovers that the only item in the briefcase is a personal diary/notebook she is disappointed, but upon closer inspection she finds the contents of the diary are so shocking and evil that she anonymously posts the diary to one of LA’s forensic scientists. This, however, is only the start of her problems and she has now put herself in grave danger as the owner of the diary won’t stop at ANYTHING to get it back.
The serial killer in Written in Blood is a very dark, disturbed and disturbing individual and the murders he has committed are unbelievably grotesque and grisly, however it wouldn’t be a Robert Hunter book without the gore.
Robert shows a particularly vulnerable side to his personality in this story, especially towards Angela the young pick-pocket and made him slightly more “human” in my mind as he has appeared to be more reserved in previous books.
Once again, Chris Carter has written a page-turner and kept his fans entertained throughout.
About the author: Chris Carter
He worked as a criminal psychologist for several years before moving to Los Angeles, where he swapped the suits and briefcases for ripped jeans, bandanas and an electric guitar. After a spell playing for several well known glam rock bands, he decided to try my luck in London, where he was fortunate enough to have played for a number of famous artists. He toured the world several times as a professional musician. A few years ago he gave it all up to become a full time writer
