Tell me about the person behind the blog?
My name is Kate, I’m mum to 1 human child of the toddling variety and 2 canines (a border collie and a border collie x). I’ve had a fascination with books for as long as I can remember and most of my spare time is spent either reading or knitting. I live in a wee village in Aberdeenshire which is a huge change for a city girl!
When did you start blogging and why?
I started blogging about 2 years ago, but really did it for me as a way to do something constructive with my time when the wee one napped and it all took off from there really.
What are your proudest moments or achievements todate as a blogger?
Getting feedback from authors and publishers always makes me feel immense pride, seeing that they’ve appreciated my ramblings is always an honour. Recently a fellow blogger tipped me off that I’d been quoted in Jenny Blackhurst’s “Before I Let You In” which was a squeal inducing moment of sheer happiness, and I’ve just found out that I’ve been quoted on Su Bristow’s Sealskin book cover by the wonderful Orenda Books – pretty huge for me!
If you had to breakdown the components of your ideal perfect book what would they be?
It needs to be a really good book, the sort that if you do manage to put it down you can’t stop thinking about, imagining what might happen next and what predicaments the characters will get into and stays with you once you’ve finished it.
What is your favourite genre to read?
I’m partial to thrillers, and crime books – but I’m not restricted to these as I do pick up historical fiction and contemporary fiction in between books as well as delving back to Cold War Espionage books.
What are your 3 favourite books and why?
1 The Constant Soldier – a historical fiction book that is one of the most powerful I’ve read in a long time. Poignant & emotive it captures the harsh brutalities of war & yet it demonstrates the fragility of people so well.
2 Electric Souk – vividly atmospheric & filled with mystery. A book that utterly bewitched me & stayed with me long after I’d finished it.
3 Little Bones by Sam Blake – a kick ass Irish detective investigating a very interesting case that unravels into one of the most suspenseful plots I’ve read. So many elements to the plot but they all work perfectly together and leaves you needing the next book in the series!
Finally, tell me more about your blog and why we should subscribe?
My blog is called The Quiet Knitter and it’s basically just me wittering on about books I’ve read and enjoyed. Most of the time it will be something crime thriller related, but I do like to branch out with Women’s Fiction and Contemporary Fiction to mix things up. The only things you won’t find are Sci-FI, Horror and Erotica. I write honest reviews of books that I have read and hope that others may enjoy, participate in cover reveals and blog tours and away to start a new feature sharing some new and upcoming independently published books and their authors so be sure to stop by and check it out from February onwards.
