Tell me about the person behind the blog?
My name is Ronnie. I’m a lover of books and groovy music. I’m a mum to three lovely collies, one of which is a nine-month-old called Bertie, the newest addition to the Turner household. I live in sunny Dorset and in my spare time enjoy learning new languages, walking, taking my #BookSnaps and devouring copious amounts of chocolate! ! (;
When did you start blogging and why?
I started blogging just over a year ago now because I’m absolutely book mad and I really wanted to share my thoughts about my latest reads … also to give my poor friends some relief from my constant book chatter! Lol!
What are your proudest moments or achievements to date as a blogger?
Some of my proudest moments have got to be having my reviews quoted in books! I never could have imagined it possible so I’m very grateful to the lovely publishing folk, authors and the utterly wonderful book bloggers who’ve welcomed me into the blogging world!
If you had to breakdown the components of your ideal perfect book what would they be?
First and foremost, a killer hook. Something that either gives me the shivers, melts my heart or tickles my funny bone. If it has a good hook, then I’ll most likely want to read it! And also a good ‘Bad Guy’ – you just can’t beat a twisted, terrifying character! I love them!
What is your favourite genre to read?
I enjoy most genres, from women‘s fiction to crime fiction, horror to romance, I love it all! Some of my favourite authors include Stephen King, Su Bristow, Kate Atkinson, Bill Bryson, Zadie Smith, Terry Pratchett, Agatha Christie, Maggie O’Farrell, Sarah Waters, Daphne Du Maurier, Joanne Harris, Matt Wesolowski, Joanna Cannon and lots, lots more!! Since I started blogging, I’ve discovered some AMAZING authors – new favourites who have opened my eyes to absolute wonders.
What 3 books would you recommend and why?
The Shining by Stephen King, because he offers the reader not only fantastic characters, a riveting plot and an abundance of twists, he injects a dose of magic into the book, so much so that reading no longer feels like reading, it feels like you’ve literally just been catapulted into the lives of Jack and little Danny and into the fearsome Overlook Hotel.
A God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson, because it’s searing emotion envelopes the reader and her exquisite prose snatches them from their chair and deposits them into the world of her making within seconds. I’ve been a fan of hers for years and each book just gets better and better. She has a new one out soon – I’m so, SO excited!
The Night Watch by Sarah Waters, just because! She’s a virtuoso and this book has everything that makes not a great book but a magnificent one!
Finally, tell me more about your blog and why we should subscribe?
I review a wide variety of genres, encompassing everything from chick-lit to horror so there is something for everyone. I’m also about to start a new feature called Behind the Design, in which book cover designers write a piece about the inspiration behind their latest creations, the process behind the design and the quest to find the perfect cover. I’m hoping to have the first piece in March so keep an eye out!! I’m really excited
