A Quickie with Michael Wood

Tell me about your latest book and why we should read it?

My latest novel is called A ROOM FULL OF KILLERS, and it is my darkest novel yet. It’s set in a fictitious youth prison in Sheffield, home to eight murderous boys. It was challenging to write but is my personal favourite so far.

If someone was to write your life story what would the title be?

I’ve often thought of this and I think the title should be WHY SO SERIOUS?

What’s the strangest fan question or request you’ve received?

I haven’t been asked anything strange yet. Not what I consider strange, anyway. Maybe my readers are incredibly normal. Or maybe I’m incredibly weird that their behaviour doesn’t seem strange to me. There’s a question for a therapist to answer. Haha.

If you could co-write with anyone in the world (alive or dead) who would it be?

I’m going to cheat and say an alive person and a dead one – Val McDermid (because she is a fantastic psychological thriller writer) and Charles Dickens (because he is the master of storytelling.

Tell me something nobody else knows about you (yet!).

I have a phobia of bananas.

Finally please recommend 3 books that you have recently read and tell me why you’ve chosen these.

THE TIES THAT BIND by Erin Kelly. This was so amazingly written that I didn’t want it to end. I was incredibly jealous of this book too. I don’t want to have written it, I wish I was a character in it. Highly recommended.
BELIEVE ME by Eddie Izzard. A very frank and open biography by a talented actor/comedian and philanthropist. There’s a wonderful life message in this book too. We can all take something away from it. I have.
THE LAST ACT OF LOVE by Cathy Rentzenbrink. A profoundly moving book about life, loss and grief. I’ll be reading this again and again.
