What have I just read…. ? Molka is the second book I’ve read by Monika Kim and I should have known after finishing The Eyes are The Best Part that Molka was going to be extremely odd, uncomfortable and downright eeeuuuuurrrrghhh.
I haven’t heard about Molka before, but it’s a THING.. and a pretty disgusting thing .. the Korean term for spy cameras secretly and illegally installed, often to capture voyeuristic images and videos.
This book centres around two main characters: Dahye, a young woman who meets a handsome and very, very wealthy man called Hyukjoon, who happens to be the heir to a multi-million dollar fortune and soon the couple are involved in a steamy romance.
The other main character is Junyoung, an IT tech who works at the same place at Dahye. He has installed secret and hidden cameras throughout the office primarily in the ladies toilets and spends his time spying on them in their most vulnerable moments.
A difficult book to read given the subject matter and the disturbing insight into the thoughts of these men who think it’s their right to degrade women.
There is also some rather spooky supernatural elements to this story, which I’m not sure added or detracted from the plot, but it certainly gave me the creeps.
