From the author of the million-copy bestseller The Girl With All the Gifts comes a heart-stopping psychological thriller with a twist you won’t see coming and a heroine you can’t trust . . .
About the Book: THERE ARE TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY.
Liz Kendall wouldn’t hurt a fly. Even when times get tough, she’s devoted to bringing up her kids in a loving home.
But there’s another side to Liz, one that’s dark and malicious. She will do anything to get her way – no matter how extreme.
And when her alter-ego takes control, the consequences are devastating.
Someone Like Me is the intoxicating new thriller from the phenomenal M. R. Carey. A modern take on the Jekyll and Hyde tale, think Gone Girl meets Stephen King – but you won’t have read anything quite like this before . . .
My Review: If you’ve read any of M.R. Carey’s previous books then I think you know what to expect – if you haven’t read any – then prepare to have your mind blown!
This is another difficult book to review without giving away any spoilers so I need to be careful of what I say here. Liz Kendall is a devoted mother of 2 with a violent ex-husband who treated her like a human punchbag throughout their marriage. One night when returning their children he attacks her but she fights back – harder with an inner strength she didn’t know she had – except this inner strength also has a name and wants revenge.
The other main character in this story is Fran (Francine) a young teenage girl who was involved in a horrific abduction 10 years ago and still bears the scars mentally. When Fran’s path crosses with Liz’s eldest son their lives become entwined and connected in ways no-one could see coming.
A very clever and twisty tale which kept me glued to each page – devouring every chapter, rooting for Liz and Fran and loving the entire book.
