About the book: Be careful before answering your next call. It could be the beginning of your worst nightmare.
After a tough week, Tanya Kaitlin is looking forward to a relaxing night in, but as she steps out of her shower, she hears her phone ring. The video call request comes from her best friend, Karen Ward. Tanya takes the call and the nightmare begins.
Detectives Robert Hunter and Carlos Garcia are thrown into a rollercoaster of evil, chasing a predator who scouts the streets and social media networks for victims, taunting them with secret messages and feeding on their fear.
My Review: I recently lost my reading mojo and was struggling to find something to read and rekindle my kindle so I chose an “old favourite” author as I knew that Chris Carter was always reliable for a good, fast paced, gory thriller featuring one of my favourite detectives Robert Hunter therefore The Caller – book 8 in the series was started late at night.
Note to self: NEVER START A CHRIS CARTER BOOK LATE AT NIGHT.
Within seconds I am truly sucked into the story line and again Chris Carter has created a horrifying and twisted serial killer but this one was, in my opinion, even sicker, twistier, angrier and more evil that all the previous books put together. At 25% through and about 12.30am I thought it was time to put the book down and go to sleep. BIG MISTAKE! For the first time in nearly 50 years I had a NIGHTMARE – a really frightening and disturbing NIGHTMARE – one that made me cry and scream out loud in my sleep and my hubby had to wake me from as I was screaming so loudly and I am 100% confident this was brought on by Chris Carter and this book. However, I’m not usually affected by books so the following day I finished the book (OK I admit I read it during daylight hours with all the lights on and the doors locked) because I had to know if Robert and Carlos catch the killer.
So, if you like sick, twisted, brutal, gory and fast paced thrillers – then you really need to read THE CALLER – but whilst it can be read as a standalone I would strongly recommend reading this amazing series in order.
About the author: Chris Carter
He worked as a criminal psychologist for several years before moving to Los Angeles, where he swapped the suits and briefcases for ripped jeans, bandanas and an electric guitar. After a spell playing for several well known glam rock bands, he decided to try my luck in London, where he was fortunate enough to have played for a number of famous artists. He toured the world several times as a professional musician. A few years ago he gave it all up to become a full time writer
