My Review:
Reading a Steve Cavanagh book is like slipping on a comfy pair of slippers whilst sitting in your favourite chair eating your favourite snacks. You know you are guaranteed total satisfaction and enjoyment especially when one of your favourite characters Eddie Flynn is involved.
If you haven’t already met Eddie, do yourself a HUGE favour and download the books NOW and read them in order, BUT if you can’t wait, they can all be read in any order.
The Devil’s Advocate is the 6th novel in this phenomenal series following Eddie Flynn, ex-conman, now full time Defence Lawyer in the US. I know I’ve said it after every book, but I think this one might be my favourite so far..!
The Devil’s Advocate is slightly different from the other books, Eddie is no longer flying solo, he is working together with his mentor Harry, Kate, a talented lawyer who he met in Fifty-Fifty and the brilliant investigator Bloch. As a team the chemistry and history between these four main characters gives that additional depth of detail which enabled me to care even more about them as individuals.
Once again Eddie finds himself involved in a complicated and troubling case, a small town in the deep South of the US appears to have the highest death penalty cases and when a young black man is facing the electric chair, Eddie is asked to defend him. It seems that the District Attorney Randal Korn has a very unhealthy obsession about watching people die and will even alter evidence to ensure the defendant dies on his watch.
This book covers so many topics including White supremacy, murder and racial discrimination and Randall Korn really is the most despicable character, I could literally smell his rancid flesh everything he spoke.
A gripping, legal thriller with enough suspense and thrills to keep me glued to the pages for a 7 hour flight to Dubai – I literally didn’t put the book down and eagerly await the next book in one of my favourite series.
