The Perfect Couple – Jackie Kabler

The perfect couple…or the perfect lie?

A year and a half ago, Gemma met the love of her life, Danny. Since then, their relationship has been like something out of a dream. But one Friday evening, Gemma returns home to find Danny is nowhere to be seen.

After two days with no word from her husband, Gemma turns to the police. She is horrified with what she discovers – a serial killer is on the loose in Bristol. When she sees the photos of the victims she is even more stunned…the victims all look just like Danny.

But, the detectives aren’t convinced by Gemma’s story. Why has no one apart from Gemma seen or heard from Danny in weeks? Why is there barely a trace of him in their flat? Is she telling them the truth, or are there more secrets and lies in this marriage than meets the eye?

My Review.

This is my first book by Jackie Kabler, which I downloaded because it was free for Prime Members and everyone loves a freebie. The Perfect Couple is a standalone psychological thriller which I really enjoyed from the opening chapter.

Gemma and Danny are newly married and have relocated from London to Bristol. She is a freelance lifestyle journalist and he works in IT. On the surface everything appears rosy and wonderful, but three weeks into their move Danny disappears without a trace.

Meanwhile, over the past few weeks two men have been murdered in Bristol, both attacked in the same way and both men bear a striking resemblance to each other. The police are trying to work out the connection between the men and whether they have a serial killer on their hands.

When Gemma finally reports Danny missing to the police having exhausted all other likely scenarios the detectives in charge are shocked to see that Danny looks exactly like the 2 dead men.. is he another victim yet to be found?

There are so many twists and turns in this clever storyline and I really was trying to work out what was going on throughout the book, and as usual my amateur armchair detective skills let me down which always makes the book far more enjoyable for me.

The Perfect Couple is a well plotted, twisty tale which kept me glued to the pages (screen) and guessing (incorrectly) throughout the story. Highly enjoyable and good news to all Amazon Prime Members as several other books by Jackie Kabler are free to read.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
