The Widow – KL Slater

My husband was not a monster. No matter what they say….

The day my husband, Michael, stepped in front of a lorry after being questioned by the police, my world fell apart. He was devoted to me and our six-year-old daughter. But they’d connected him to the disappearance of a young mother from our tiny village.

Now I stand at Michael’s funeral, clutching my little girl’s hand, with tears in my eyes as I insist to all our friends that he died an innocent man. Yet the questions have started, and nothing I say will stop them digging for the truth.

But none of them can read the secrets in my heart, or know about the phone I found hidden in his toolbox….

I’m determined that my daughter will not remember her father as a monster. I will erase any hint of wrongdoing in this house whatever the cost.

Because to keep my daughter safe, the last thing I need is for people to start looking at me….

My Review:

I listened to THE WIDOW via Amazon Audible – and good news if you are a member as this one is included FREE in your membership.

This is the 16th standalone psychological thriller from KL Slater and once again, it’s a belter of a book. Brilliantly narrated by Lucy Price-Lewis The Widow tells the story of Kate, happily married to Michael with a young daughter Tansy living in a small village called Lynwick. This tight-knit community know everything about everyone and nothing spreads quicker than gossip.

When a young, attractive Polish mother goes missing one evening, suspicion falls upon Michael and slowly evidence is uncovered proving Michael isn’t quite the loving father and husband Kate thought he was.

Without giving too much away (the clue is in the title), having been questioned by the police, Michael steps out in front of a lorry and is killed leaving Kate heartbroken and confused. Why would he leave them? what is he hiding? was he involved in the missing woman?

When news of Michael’s apparent suicide reaches the Villagers, Kate finds herself being ostracised by the community but it determined to uncover the truth and hopefully prove Michael’s innocence.

I really enjoyed this audio version, the narrator was fabulous, the story kept me gripping and guessing throughout and I was delighted to see that several of KL Slater’s books are also included in the Audible Membership.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
