My Review:

This is my first book by Dawn French and is quite a step away from my usual dark thrillers, but in this strange new world I fancied a bit of light-hearted, easy reading and Oh Dear Silvia provides exactly that.

If you enjoy quirky characters within an amusing story then I am confident you will enjoy this book. Oh Dear Silvia is the tale of 60 year old Silvia, an ex-wife and estranged mother/grandmother who is now in a coma after falling off a balcony. The story is narrated by her ex-husband, her best friend, the nurse, her sister, her cleaner and her estranged daughter and throughout each of the narratives we learn more about Silvia and what brought her to this point in her life.

It’s amusing and witty in places and sad and emotional in others. Will you laugh out loud? Possibly not but it’s a very welcome distraction to everything else that is going on in the world right now.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
