A Quickie with Sarah Hilary

Tell me about your latest book and why we should read it?

Quieter Than Killing is set in an ice-bound London where a series of savage vigilante attacks are taking place. If you like your crime fiction with plenty of twists, a flavour of darkness but also humour and compassion, this one’s for you.

If someone was to write your life story what would the title be?

Seriously? (That would be the title, ‘Seriously?’)

What’s the strangest fan question or request you’ve received?

My teenager keeps suggesting I kill off Noah Jake (for the emotional impact). Since I regularly get complaints for treating Noah a bit roughly, I dread to think what would happen if I actually killed him.

If you could co-write with anyone in the world (alive or dead) who would it be?

I’d love to co-author a ghost story with Rowan Coleman.

Tell me something nobody else knows about you (yet!).

I was once propositioned in Prince Andrew’s rooms at a naval base.

Finally please recommend 3 books that you have recently read and tell me why you’ve chosen these.

Spook Street by Mick Herron because it’s funny and clever and you’ll fall in love with its characters.

The Dry by Jane Harper because it’s set in the Australian outback and has one of the best opening chapters I’ve read.

Golden Hill by Francis Spufford because it’s great fun and unlike any other book I’ve read this year.
