The Last Devil To Die – Richard Osman (Thursday Murder Club #4)

Shocking news reaches the Thursday Murder Club.

An old friend in the antiques business has been killed, and a dangerous package he was protecting has gone missing.

As the gang springs into action they encounter art forgers, online fraudsters and drug dealers, as well as heartache close to home.

With the body count rising, the package still missing and trouble firmly on their tail, has their luck finally run out? And who will be the last devil to die?

My Thoughts:

This is the 4th book in the cosy-crime, feel-good series about a group of octogenarians who live in a retirement village and solve murders. Apparently there is another book in this series, but as our main characters are all in their mid to late 80’s I’m not sure how much longer this wonderful series can realistically go on, but let’s talk about this book for now.

I listened to this book on Audible as I also listened to book 3 and loved Fiona Shaw’s narration and it is so comforting settling down with Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, Ron and the gang for another mystery to solve and this time it’s personal.

One of their friends has been brutally murdered and the gang aren’t going to rest until they find the killer and close the case before the police do. Plus a new resident at Coopers Chase seems to be the victim of an online romance scam which the gang are determined to stop.

As usual the book is full of amusing moments and Joyce’s wonderful diary entries, but there are some really emotional and heart-breaking parts, which made me cry ugly tears. There is also the opportunity to learn more about some of the main character’s backgrounds and past and I found Ibrahim’s story so sad and moving.

Once again Richard Osman has delivered a wonderful, entertaining and thought-provoking story and I look forward to the next book and will definitely be watching the film when it’s released.
