You Are Mine – Miranda Rijks

Rupert has spent years searching for his perfect wife. Now he’s found her.

Her name is Charlotte Aldridge and she’s wonderful. A talented artist, modest and beautiful, she’s everything he ever dreamed of. Her hair, her eyes, her mouth – every little detail is perfect.

Rupert is confident that when they meet, she’ll fall in love with him just as he has with her. After all, he’s a wealthy British aristocrat. And he’s handsome – the relentless gym workouts and extensive plastic surgery have seen to that.

But what if Charlotte can’t see that they fit perfectly, that they’re meant for each other? Well, Rupert can be very persuasive. His father taught him certain methods which are extremely effective. Methods that can turn the most determined, ‘I don’t’ into a meek and submissive, ‘I do’….

My Review:

When this book popped up on a Facebook group looking for bloggers to take part, I took me about 10 seconds to reply – “ME PLEASE, PICK ME!” and the lovely Emma Welton of Damppebblesblogtours responded immediately with a date and a copy of the book, which I downloaded and started straight away.

Firstly I need to confess that I absolutely LOVE psychopaths and the more twisted and delusional the better and Sir Rupert St John Baskerville Bt., JP of Sesame Hall, West Sussex is one absolutely bat-sh*t delusional, twisted and disturbed psychopath and I, personally, really enjoyed the book because of him.

On the surface Sir Rupert is a much respected magistrate and local councillor – a pillar of the community and held in high regard within his community. Charlotte is a young artist who is grieving the violent and sudden death of her beloved fiance Matthew six months ago and is attending her first gallery exhibition of her artwork when she meets Sir Rupert who makes her an offer too good to refuse – £20,000 to paint his portrait at his stately mansion in West Sussex.

You Are Mine is told narrated by 3 characters, alternating between past and present day. Charlotte (Charlie) the grieving young artist; Sir Rupert the rich and respected magistrate and young Simone, who tells her story from 1994 when she first met Sir Rupert and his father.

There is no denying Rupert has severe “issues” and a very unhealthy view on relationships and as the story unfolds, it’s becomes clearer why Rupert behaves like he does, however at no time did I feel sorry for him.

The author has created a really twisted villain and I thoroughly enjoyed this thriller and recommend it to anyone who enjoys a fast-paced story with some very odd characters and a couple of twists thrown in.

My thanks to Emma Welton of Damppebblesblogtours for the invitation to join the tour and read the book.
